My Start in the Journey of Farm life

Dear Readers,

I apologize for not posting more regularly. I have been quite busy this year, and posting has been set aside for far to long. To update you in the most recent doings of my life, I have been able to graduate from High School, by the grace of God, and am hoping to graduate from piano in the next month or so.

For quite some time, I have been hoping to begin a new chapter in my life and start a bit of farming. I believed that to farm you must have a fair amount of land and be located deep in the country. Boy, was I wrong! After much reading and researching, I was convinced that I could begin my dream of having a farm on our small acre. Although I won't be able to have to many animals, I believe having chickens will suppress the urge to get a cow.... for now. :)

A few month ago I was able to talk my parents into allowing me to get chickens. I honestly didn't have any clue of how to go about purchasing and finding the best breed. But a few wonderful friends helped me and gave me much advice during the process. I ordered 15 female Black Australorp chicks from Murray Mc'Murray Hatchery and they gave me 1 special breed for free. They arrived about 4 days later and it was love at first sight! Being able to teach them how to drink and eat was very interesting and they learned very quickly.

We couldn't distinguish one chick from the other except for the special breed who we named Sarah and one cute, fat one with a whitish head who we named M&M.

The chicks are only 21 days old and yet they are growing at an incredibly fast pace and becoming rather rebellious. It's been quite the chore having to clean their water and food multiple times a day, but I am beginning to enjoy it immensely.

Their not the cute fluff balls anymore but their still entertaining to watch. They have been testing their wings out and I've had an escapee but we were able to catch her without to much trouble. :)

Sarah is the most curious and loves getting all the attention and being in the way when your trying to clean after them. ;)

I have, in recent years, discovered the joy of  gardening and this year decided to have a bigger garden although it ended up being much bigger than I anticipated . It took much planning and researching but I enjoyed every minute it! A wonderful organic vegetable and flower store opened on the street next to us and I was able to talk with the owner and become wonderful friends with her. She was a great help in planning my garden!

We put deer wire around the garden to keep the hungry animals out and so far it has done wonderfully! I decided to have the chicken coop made near the garden so the chickens would help with bugs. Again, God sent friends to help with providing material for this, and Jared and I built it. It's a bit off square but I think it's adorable.

My mother has been wanting to get some organic blueberry bushes so I got two young bushes and surprisingly one of the bushes is yielding a handful of blueberries!

My cucumbers are doing wonderfully and I'm hoping Bess will teach me how to make pickles this year!

The banana peppers are looking very healthy!

It's my first time planting green peppers but they seem to be doing just fine!

My Friend at the plant store suggested 6 different kinds of tomatoes so I will be harvesting quite the variety of tomatoes. I love these yellows tomatoes! I would give you the name but I don't remember! I'll have to work on improving my memory! ;)

I've been putting organic egg shells and coffee grounds in the garden around certain plants for compost. It seems to be helping! I have many more plants that I could talk about but time would tell me to wait for another post.

I hope you have enjoyed this small tour of my garden and reading about the chicks as much as I have enjoyed writing about it. I hope to post a little more often than before but you know how life gets! If you have any tips and advice about gardening or chickens please leave a comment!

Spring, Spring, Spring!

Dear Readers,

I am so happy that spring is finally here!!!!! I have been able to take some pictures of the new flowers and the new plants that are finally coming alive at our house in Belton! I truly LOVE Spring the best out of all the seasons, it brings hope to me! What is your favorite season of the year?? Why?

"For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land"
Song Of Solomon 2:11-12

"Spring flowers are in blossom all over. The whole world's a choir- and singing! Spring warblers are filling the forest with sweet arpeggios. Lilacs are exuberantly purple and perfumed, and cherry trees fragrant with blossoms."
Song of Solomon 2:12-13a

I am also starting my own herb garden this year! I have had so much fun watching my plants grow and I can't wait to use it in my food, and for medicine!
Most of the herbs are medicinal which will be very interesting! I have been studying how to make medicines and when and what to use them for. If someone has done this sort of garden before and you have some tips please, please, please, let me know!! Well, I hope you have enjoyed this post as much as I have in writing it! Till' next time!

In Loving Memory of Paul Valdez

Dear Readers,

This past Friday at 5:10 Am, a very dear member of our family passed away unexpectedly. Although he wasn't our grandfather, we loved him and will miss him so much. My grandmother was taken to the hospital due to stress of it all but we thank God that she is stable and is at home. Though it is hard to suffer the loss of a loved one it brings to mind that "The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord." May HE be glorified in our sorrow, exalted in our loss, and magnified in our grief. We have been shown that God gives the grace we need to endure everything He sends our way, and we have to trust Him in all our ways.  Please pray as my Grandmother is still grieving the loss of her husband, and for us as we help her and grieve as well.

God's Guidance in Finding a Spouse

Dear Readers,

My pastor spoke to us on this subject during our Old Testament Survey, and it was such a blessing and encouragement to me that I wanted to share it with everyone! I asked My pastor for his notes, so I take no credit for this. I hope you are encouraged as much as I was!

Genesis 24

Issac is overshadowed by his father Abraham and his son Jacob. One very interesting episode that relates him is the manner in which Abraham went about selecting a wife for Isaac. We have some insights into how to receive guidance from God.

1. The principles on ascertaining God's will

        A. Establish a covenant relationship with God though His Son (24:1-4)

The text here shows that God has blessed Abraham in all things. But we must admit
there are some things within this text that are somewhat strange to our modern ears.
But what I wanted you to see is that Abraham wants this servant to obtain a wife not               from Canaan, but from his kindred. Now why do you think that is? Well, the obvious               reason is that this group is most certainly wicked. But remember this group is under              a curse.

Genesis 9:24 " When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had              done to him, he said, "Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his                        brothers."

So we remember the story of how Ham dishonored his father and a curse was spoken               on his youngest son. So, I believe Abraham had the good sense not to marry into that               cursed family.

      B. Move within the context of God's revealed will

I believe that Abraham understood that this was the will for him. And that                                  the covenantal promises were not though Shem and Ham but though Shem only.
So remember all of these things that we read earlier in Genesis are important.

But keep in mind we must move within the revealed will of God. Certainly, these
Canaanites did not worship God and it is not the will of God that we should marry our             sons and daughters to unbelievers.

Deuteronomy 7:1-4 -  " When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither                thou goest to posses it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and                the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the                    Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; and when                  the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly                 destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy into them:                   Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto               his son, not his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. For they will turn away thy son            from following Me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be                   kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly."

God is pretty clear to these Israelites that they are not to marry with these pagans.
II Corinthians 6:14 - " Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what                    fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath                      light with darkness?"
So this is not some outdated O.T. concept. There is liberty in this.
        1. The Kindred (vs. 3-4)
So Abraham send his servants to find a wife for Isaac within his own family.
         2. The Country (vs. 5-6)
So, the servant is to go and get this wife from the old country and do it without                          Issac. Do you pray for your future spouse? Do you trust that God will bring the right                one along?
      C. Trust in God to guide you (vs. 7b)
The servant see the issues and difficulties. Abraham is trusting God to guide him.
            This trust involves:

I understand this advice is difficult, but let me encourage you to trust God.

            1. Believing God has a will in this situation.
            2. Believing that His will is best.
            3. Believing that He will make His will known to you or bring you into it.

     D. Take whatever general steps you can  (vs. 10)

When I say take whatever steps you can that simply means do what you know God
clearly commands. We know we are supposed to go to work, church, evangelize,
not steal, etc... Do those things while God prepares you and brings about His will in                  your life.

   E. Pray for specific directions (vs. 12-14)

Certainly, we must pray that God will give us guidance. And this kind of prayer                         demonstrates that you realize how dependant upon God you are. God knows
that we are dependant upon Him, we are the ones that have the problem.

  F. Avoid premature conclusions about God's leading

All I can say here is that we must not let our experience determine whether or not something we have prayed for is the will of God. We must line the experience up with the word of God.

G. Obey promptly when God does clearly indicate His will.

Once God's will is clear to you, obey immediately. Don't delay.

1. Their word to him (vs. 50-51)
These men realize that this is of God and they obeyed.

2. His word to them (vs. 56)
Once we see the will of God clearly, then we must not hinder.

H. Give God the credit for the results

Never forget to give God the credit for the results.

1. In Prayer (vs.48)
This servant clearly saw the favor of God in this adventure.
2. In Public
And never forget to give God the glory to those around us.

2. The parallel in assignment in God's work

A. God, like Abraham, sends forth His servants to obtain a bride for His Son.

This story really parallels the Christian walk. God is sending us out to find a Bride for His Son.

B. We succeed in our commission in the very same way Abraham's servant did.

And we must use the same principles this servant used.

1. We look to God in prayer
2. We declare Christ as appointed heir of all things.

We need to declare the message given to us. The message is that all people should submit ti the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Our labors are crowned with similar success

Remember our success is determined by the way we carry out the will of our Father. Did we use the means He gave us or did we manufacture some man-made method?

I hope this has been a blessing to you! I know I was really blessed by it!! If you would like to hear more by Pastor Ben Gardner you can find him on sermonaudio.com , just type his name in.
Please leave a comment and let me know what you thought!

Prayer for the Jacobs family

Dear Readers,

I want to ask prayer for the Jacobs family as their suffering the loss of a son/ father.  officer Allen Jacobs was shot and killed Friday as he and a partner were trying to question a self-professed gang member who they had been told was trying to buy a gun.
Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller told a news conference Friday that Officer Allen Jacobs and a second officer got out of their car and were trying to question Deondea Mackey, 17 when he ran from them.
Miller initially said the officers were trying to serve a warrant, but later said police were acting on a report that Mackey, a self-professed gang member with a criminal record, was trying to buy a gun.
Miller said Jacobs chased Mackey, who ran behind a house. The second officer was on the phone with a dispatcher when he heard gunshots and when he reached the scene, he found Jacobs on the ground, Miller said.
"Our officers who were here on the scene and who responded to assist performed CPR on our officer and the CPR was unsuccessful," Miller said.
Jacobs was pronounced dead at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Jacobs was married and was the father of two young boys. His wife is pregnant with the couple's daughter due to be born in July. Please pray that this family would find comfort in God and that they will lean completely on Him.
