A Little Common Sense from Mrs. Dunwoody

"All of us carry in our hearts and minds the image of our ideal home, realized or not. It is a place where we feel we belong, a rightness, at-homeness, a knitting together of self and world...as Dear Mother used to say, "Home is the place where you can restore your mind, body, and soul."
We often take our home for granted. But when we steep ourselves in our home, a deep sense of place begins to emerge...Our homes will only be generous and nurturing as the effort we invest in them.
All family members will carry the atmosphere we create in our homes for the rest of their lives."

A RECIPE FOR A HAPPY HOME

Half a cup of friendship, and a cup of thoughtfulness, creamed together with a pinch of powered tenderness, very lightly beaten in a bowl of loyalty with a cup of faith, one of hope, and one of charity. Be sure to add a spoonful of gaiety that sings, also the ability to laugh at the little things. Moisten with sudden tears of heartfelt sympathy, bake in good-natured oven and serve repeatedly.

"It is my belief that a meaningful day has its roots firmly established in routine. I have found that is I rise early and give my day to God in prayer, I am assured of an orderly and well-managed home. The importance of rising early cannot be emphasized enough. Usually the quietest portion of the day, this time alone is essential for ordering activities and collecting one's thoughts. It can become a treasured retreat of serenity that prepares and equips one for whatever the day may hold."

"A place for everything, and everything in its place." Well and truly, there is a time for certain duties, and the home keeper must see that there is no infringement of the laws that are laid down for the household. Children cannot too soon be taught the importance of order, neatness, and economy. An ill-governed household, where there is neither system, order, neatness, nor frugality, is a bad school for children. If you set an example of carelessness, do not blame your children for following it."

To finished this post:

A LITTLE COMMON SENSE

"To keep you sanity and save time in the morning, set the breakfast table with dishes and silverware, coffeepot, etc, and nonperishable items the night before. Also, take the time to put the other items you will need for the next day (papers, clothes, and so on) in a place where you will be sure to find them upon arising."

I hope you enjoy reading these excerpts from "Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping."

Sisters!

God created this amazing relationship called sisters.  We live together, play together, fight together, worship together and grow up together.  I have two sisters and its been so much fun to become closer through the years.  We aren't just sisters--we are best friends and no matter what happens we will always be there for each other.  I'm not sure when this picture was but it was around 2011-2013 Bess and I at her last recital las May Grabbing lunch during our home remodel. This picture was taken in April of last year And this is a recent picture, taken on my grandmothers birthday. All I can say is I thank God for my sisters and all my family. Your Friend, Haviland~

My Character Sketch on John and Betty

This past Sunday I did my first Character Sketch. I was so nervous! But thankfully it went well. I hope you enjoy it and that you will be richly blessed!        THE STORY OF JOHN & BETTY STAM Betty held her baby in her arms, singing softly to this infant child, all to aware that this was their last night together.  Her husband John, tied to a bedpost, could not sleep either. Only two weeks before they had arrived at their mission station with three month old Helen Priscilla, full of hope and eager for ministry. But on this cold winter night, their quiet lullabies were a parting sorrow, for tomorrow they would die. Elisabeth Alden was born on February 22, 1906. She was the daughter of missionary parents in China. When her family returned to the states she enrolled in Wilson Collage in Pennsylvania, from which she graduated. Knowing that she needed more preparation for the mission field, she then went to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. It was there...

In Loving Memory of Paul Valdez

Dear Readers, This past Friday at 5:10 Am, a very dear member of our family passed away unexpectedly. Although he wasn't our grandfather, we loved him and will miss him so much. My grandmother was taken to the hospital due to stress of it all but we thank God that she is stable and is at home. Though it is hard to suffer the loss of a loved one it brings to mind that "The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord." May HE be glorified in our sorrow, exalted in our loss, and magnified in our grief. We have been shown that God gives the grace we need to endure everything He sends our way, and we have to trust Him in all our ways.  Please pray as my Grandmother is still grieving the loss of her husband, and for us as we help her and grieve as well. Your Friend, Haviland~
